DIY Modern Farmhouse Laundry Room Makeover

Incorporating farmhouse shelves and decor to your laundry room will add such beautiful style and character to your home. Here are a few tips on how to transform your space into something special.

My husband and I were finally able to give our laundry room a little attention a few months back. First order of business that I have been dreaming in my mind for months now is to add shelving on the wall above our washer and dryer. Ever since we did this in our daughters' bathroom, I thought it would be perfect for extra storage and I knew it would add so much to this space.

Supplies Needed To Complete This Project

  • Unfinished wood
  • Natural stain
  • Black iron pipes
  • Decor

This project all started with a couple of pieces of wood we picked up at Home Depot.  We purchased these adorable Black Iron Pipe Brackets online to anchor the shelves, creating a rustic, farmhouse-inspired look.

With a little help from my husband cutting the wood, we then stained the shelves to our liking with our favorite Non-Toxic Walnut Stain that we keep on hand.  Hardware was then installed into place on the wall and the wood shelves were added.

Steps To Complete This Project

  • Cut wood into 3 pieces
  • Stain wood pieces
  • Install hardware
  • Incorporate decor

And now to the fun part...the decor pieces to make this space cozy and complete. While we were waiting to finally start this project, it gave me time to pick up a few decor pieces that I would see out at a few of my favorite home stores.

My favorite addition to this room is adding these Glass Containers filled with natural laundry supplies such as baking soda and my Natural/Safe Laundry Detergent. And the best part of drying the laundry is adding my absolute favorite Essential Oils to these Wool Dryer Balls that you see here. It makes the clothes, towels and even the laundry room smell so fresh and clean! Make sure you check out my blog post, Natural Alternative To Toxic Dryer Sheets and why you should consider not using them.

This project turned out even better than I imagined...it definitely makes doing laundry so much more enjoyable. And it’s crazy how this room looks bigger now that we have added the shelves. Sometimes I go into the laundry room just to look at it and think how we actually did this ourselves.

Here is the laundry room with just turning our lamp on...definitely my favorite. It really gives it a cozy feel.

I've been slowly adding decor pieces as I see them and when they go on sale. I'm not really sure what I want to do with this wall here, but for now, this art piece works perfectly in this space.

Well, I hope we’ve inspired you with another DIY. With a little creativity you can turn anything into something that you can be proud of and doing it yourself brings much satisfaction.
