English Wassail is the most delicious and coziest hot drink during the Christmas season! It is the perfect holiday drink to serve your friends and family!

Homemade English Christmas Wassail in white crockpot

I surprised my husband a few years back with one of his favorite memories around Christmastime, his mom's English Wassail. Every Christmas she would make up a batch of this wonderful hot drink. It was delicious and such a special time we will always remember. We’re not sure of the recipe my mother-n-law used, so I thought I would do a little research and create my own version and surprise my husband.

To make it extra special, I added a few extra touches like fresh fruit, cranberries and cinnamon sticks...and it just makes it so beautiful too. My husband loved it so much and it made me so happy to bring back special moments to remember about his precious mother. It has become one of our favorite family traditions that we look forward to every year!

Tips for English Christmas Wassail

  • I love to make this drink in a crock pot so it will stay the perfect temperature for my guests. You can also make it in a dutch oven like, but of course it wouldn’t take as long to cook. Sometimes I transfer it to my dutch oven for presentation. (see recipe notes)
  • The longer the Wassail sits, the better it tastes.
  • Presentation is everything...make sure to add fresh fruit, cranberries and cinnamon sticks to mugs when serving guests.
  • Serve in pretty glass mugs for a beautiful experience!

This English Christmas Wassail is completely satisfying no matter what time of year, but especially during the Christmas season.  So grab up all the ingredients and give it a try!
